On
April 10, 2006 Bausch & Lomb stated that it would be
suspending all shipments of ReNu with MoistureLoc. The
suspension came about as a result of numerous reports
regarding the defectiveness of this product. It has come
to our attention that ReNu with MoistureLoc has been the
cause of many injuries. Tim D. Wilson Investigations is
currently working with numerous clients who have been
adversely affected following the use of ReNu with
MoistureLoc.
ReNu with MoistureLoc is a multi purpose contact lens
solution that was developed and manufactured by Bausch &
Lomb, a company that specializes in contact lens
solutions. This particular contacts lens solution was
developed in order to help people who wear contacts and
have dry and sensitive eyes. ReNu with MoistureLoc has
been the subject of many investigations led both by
Bausch & Lomb and the United States Food & Drug
Administration. Due to the results of the investigations
led by these groups, ReNu with MoistureLoc has been
determined to be defective and dangerous. Following
initial investigations, ReNu with MoistureLoc has been
withdrawn from the market as of May 15, 2006.
One of the most dangerous side effects caused by the use
of ReNu with MoistureLoc is the development of Fusarium
Keratitis. Fusarium Keratitis is a fungal infection of
the eye that affects the cornea. This condition can be
very serious and can cause eye pain, decreased vision,
light hypersensitivity, and over all eye discomfort.
Fungal Keratitis can also cause permanent blindness in
more serious cases. This infection can require therapy
using antifungal drugs. Some of the antifungal drugs
used to cure Fusarium Keratitis include nystatin,
amphotericin B, natamycin, Fluorinated pyramids, and
Azoles. Fusarium Keratitis does not always respond to
antifungal drugs. If Fusarium Keratitis is not cured by
antifungal drugs, patients may have to undergo surgery
to remove the fungal ulcers or lesions from the eye.
In all there were approximately 109 cases of Fusarium
Keratitis under investigations prior to the removal of
Bausch & Lomb's ReNu with MoistureLoc. Data from the
Central for Disease Control, or CDC, stated that of 30
Fusarium Keratitis infection cases, 28 contact lens
wearers, and most using ReNu products. On May 15, 2006,
it was announced by Bausch & Lomb that it was recalling
all of its ReNu with MoistureLoc products. This news
came after about after both the CDC and the FDA had
noticed an increased in Fungal Keratitus cases with this
product on the market.
We have been extremely blessed, here at Tim D. Wilson
Investigations, to have worked with leading physicians
and top attorneys in order to assist our clients in
receiving the justice that they deserve. We believe that
Bausch & Lomb is responsible for injuring many patients
with their defective contact lens solution. If you or
anyone you know has developed Fungal Keratitis following
the use of ReNu with MoistureLoc, please contact our
office so that we may assist you in fighting your case.
