Baxter
International has manufactured a defective drug by the
name of Heparin. We are currently working with our
clients who have suffered from the dangerous side
effects from the use of Heparin. Baxter has been
connected with many serious injuries and at least four
deaths caused by the Heparin which they manufactured. We are
working hard in conjunction with top physicians and
attorneys in order to provide our clients with most
reliable and experienced representation.
Baxter International is the manufacture approximately
half of the multi-dose vials of Heparin in the United
States today. Heparin is a drug uses a blood thinner in
several different capacities. Heparin is unique because
unlike other drugs on the market, Heparin's effects take
place very rapidly and if needed its effects can be
reversed easily. Heparin is used in many instances such
as preventing blood clots, surgery, and dialysis.
After Baxter International received many reports of
serious side effects Baxter International recalled nine
lots of its 1000/unit mL multi-dose vials in January of
2008. This recall came about after many patients
suffered from serious allergy-type reactions after being
administered Heparin made by Baxter. Some of the
symptoms that patients who were administered Baxter
Heparin include dizziness, drug ineffectiveness,
diarrhea, dyspepsia, erythema, abdominal pain, decreased
blood pressure, chest pain, burning sensation, dyspnea,
flushing, headache, hypoesthesia, loss of
consciousnesses, hypotension, hyperhidrosis, pallor,
nausea, malaise, pharyngeal edema, restlessness,
paresthesia, palpitations, unresponsiveness to stimuli,
trismus, thirst, vomiting, tachycardia, and stomach
discomfort. The cause of these adverse side effects
caused in patients is due to the defective manufacturing
of the drug by Baxter International.
Another disturbing revelation about Baxter Heparin came
about in February of 2008. On February 14, 2008 it was
discovered that a Chinese factory, which manufactures
the active ingredient for Baxter Heparin, was never
inspected by the FDA. The lack of inspection was blamed
on an error in their database regarding the name of the
Chinese factory. The Chinese plant that was overlooked
is owned by a US based plant called Scientific Protein
Laboratories, LLC. After the leak regarding the lack of
FDA inspections of the Chinese manufacturing plant, the
CEO of Baxter International tried to place the blame on
Scientific Protein Laboratories, LLC. When finally
inspected by the FDA, the Chinese factory was found to
be faulty, and the FDA cited the plant for many
violations. This shifting of blame is a sign of
negligence on the part of Baxter International, who is
responsible for the final product which they had put on
the market.
Reports from the FDA indicate that they have received
350 reports of the serious side effects, caused by the
use of Baxter Heparin, since the beginning of 2008 to
the middle of February 2008. The FDA also reports that
four patients have also died after the being
administered the defective Baxter Heparin. On February
29, 2008, the FDA also stated that Baxter International
would recall all of its products containing Heparin.
This recall came about after Baxter Heparin had been
linked to approximately 400 nearly fatal adverse
reactions and up to 21 deaths following the use of the
defective product.
Following the recalls and revelations of the lack of
inspections, on March 5, 2008 it was stated by the FDA
that they had discovered a contaminant in the active
ingredient of Baxter Heparin. By this time Baxter had
also discovered that the Heparin imported from the
Chinese factory was defective. We believe that the lack
of inspection of the Chinese plant played a key role in
the serious injuries and deaths associated with the use
of Baxter Heparin.
