Click
fraud is a form of crime known as cyber crime. The cyber
crime known as click fraud occurs when a person
fraudulently clicks on your “pay per click”
advertisement on the internet. Here, at Tim D. Wilson
Investigations, we specialize in handling investigations
into all types of fraud, including click fraud. It has
come to our attention that many people are becoming
victims of this crime, and it is costing innocent people
to spend millions of unjust dollars.
Click fraud is committed for two basic reasons:
- Increase profits for
the web masters, who are the publishers of the ads
on the internet,
- Competition among
businesses
Because web masters are
paid by the number of clicks on a “pay per click”
advertisement, web masters can run up a bill on their
client when they perform click fraud to increase the
number of clicks on the advertisement. When click fraud
is committed, it costs the advertisers a lot of money.
Click fraud is used in this instance when two or more
advertisers in the same market want to cost the other
advertisers more money; thus, draining the advertisement
budget from the other company. Since advertisement is an
important part of sales in many markets, the
advertisement budget can significantly affect sales.
In many jurisdictions, click fraud is considered a
felony. Currently lobbyist are working hard to get more
strict anti-click fraud laws passed, so that this cyber
crime can be more closely controlled. If you are an
advertiser who uses “pay per click” advertisements on
the internet, there are several tale tell signs that you
should look for to determine if you are a victim of this
crime:
- Sudden and dramatic
changes in the amounts of clicks on your
advertisement,
- Clicks coming from
parts of the world where you do not conduct
business,
- Periods of extremely
high amounts of clicks, followed by periods of
normal amounts of clicks,
- Unusually high
amounts of clicks on expensive key words,
- Significant click
count differences on terms that are very similar,
for example, three or four times more clicks on
“Texas Investigator” than on “Texas Investigators.”
All of these examples may
help you determine if you are a victim of click fraud.
If you feel that you have become a victim click fraud,
please contact our office so that we may assist you in
resolving your case and help you fight for the
compensations that you deserve.
