Tim
D. Wilson Investigation is currently working with
clients who have taken the drug Avandia and have
experienced negative side effects. We specialize in the
investigation and litigation support of many defective
drug cases, and Avandia has captured our attention as
being dangerous. It is estimated that over 6 million
people have been prescribed Avandia worldwide since its
introduction to the market in 2003. We would like to
help assist your case by using our investigative
expertise in fighting large pharmaceutical companies who
are liable for many injured victims.
Avandia is a the brand name for the drug rosiglitazone,
which is in a class of drugs called thiazolidinediones.
This drug is commonly used to treat diabetic patients.
Avandia is one of the newest diabetic drugs on the
market today. The FDA approved the use of Avandia on May
25, 2006 for its unique ability to make diabetic
patients more sensitive to insulin. It has come to our
attention that Avandia has dangerous side effects
including congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, and
even bone fracture.
The condition known as congestive heart failure occurs
when ones heart no longer has the ability to pump enough
blood to maintain adequate circulation. When the heart
does not pump an adequate amount of blood, fluid starts
to build up in the lungs, causing a condition known as
pulmonary edema. A study that was published on September
9, 2003 by the Mayo Clinic Proceeding reported on six
people that were taking Avandia for the control of
diabetes. In this study all six of the patients
experienced shortness of breath, weight gain, and
swelling feet. All of these conditions are classic
symptoms of congestive heart failure. Of the six
patients, four of the patients also suffered from
chronic renal insufficiency, meaning that their kidneys
were not properly functioning.
Another adverse side effect associated with the use of Avandia is bone fractures. It is believed that this side
effect is caused because Avandia decreases the body's
ability to remove and replace bone cells. In addition to
decreasing the body's ability to remove and replace bone
cells, it also triggers the action of osteoclasts.
Osteoclasts are cells that cause the degradation of bone
cells. A December 2007 study, conducted by Nature
Medicine, suggests that Avandia is the leading cause of
these dangerous conditions. The authors of this study
recommends that patients taking Avandia should be
closely monitored for bone fractures, even while taking
medications that counter react these side effects.
Other negative side effects of Avandia can include
blurry and abnormal vision. This side effect can cause
diabetic macula edema. Diabetic macular edema is the
swelling of the retina. There have also been reports
that patients taking Avandia have also experienced
peripheral edema. Peripheral edema is the condition
where swelling occurs in the legs, ankles, and feet.
Because more than 6 million people have been prescribed
Avandia we are greatly concerned that many people are
suffering or have suffered from the many dangerous side
affects associated with its use. GlaxoSmithKline & the
FDA have admitted to the adverse side effects from using
Avandia, and we believe that they should be held liable.
If you or someone you know has suffered from the use of
Avandia, Tim D. Wilson Investigations would be honored
to assist you with your case in order to receive the
compensation that you deserve.
